The Schools
The Instituto Politécnico has nowadays six Schools in the Agrarian Sciences, Arts, Education, Health, Management and Engineering Areas. The courses taught at the IPCB combine strong practical and technical training with theorical frameworks at the highest scientific level, preparing competent professionals. The IPCB Schools have high quality facilities and equipments and excellent sports and cultural facilities. The teaching staff proves to be of high scientific, technical and pedagogical competence.
The "Escola Superior Agrária" (School of Agriculture) was founded in 1983/84. Nowadays, with about 1000 students and 100 teachers, it provides excellent facilities for the pedagogical, cultural and sportive activities. Its main objective is to prepare high-qualified technicians in the Agrarian Sciences area, scientific research, experimental development and provision of services to the regional market and the surrounding community. The School of Agriculture takes part in several national and international projects, scientific research and academic development. It also supports teachers and students mobility.
The "Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas" (School of Arts) was created in July 1999. Its main objective is to prepare artists and technicians in several areas such us, music, fashion, design and image arts in order to achieve an artistic and technical perspective. The courses' curricula include a wide range of subjects and activities that prepare the student for a demanding work environment.
The "Escola Superior de Educação" (School of Education), created in 1980, tried to provide answers to the new demands in teacher training courses imposed by the education reform. Since then, its main objective has been supported by the enlargement of intervention areas and technological improvement. Nowadays, School of Education is a solid institution.
The "Escola Superior de Tecnologia" (School of Engineering) was created in 1997. Between 1994-1997 it operated as an integrated part of the former "Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão de Castelo Branco" (School of Engineering and Management of Castelo Branco). Nowadays, it is an higher education institution developing projects in several areas such as civil engineering electrotechnical (telecommunications) engineering, computer science engineering, etc.
The "Escola Superior de Saúde Dr. Lopes Dias" (School of Health) is the result of the success of the former "Escola de Enfermagem de Castelo Branco" (School of Nursing of Castelo Branco) created in 1948. For more than an half a century, this School of Nursing trained nursing professionals, an important health resource for the region and the country. The School growth is represented by the increasing number of students and lectured courses and has a result it was integrated in the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco. Nowadays, the school contributes to the improvement of life and health quality, educating qualified technicians in several areas of health care.
Created in 1997, "Escola Superior de Gestão de Idanha-a-Nova (School of Management) is located in Idanha-a-Nova, a small town near Castelo Branco. This quiet town provides the students a good work environment and also access to the excellent social, cultural and sportive facilities that the City Hall created. The School was strategically created to develop the city and the region. It has qualified teachers and all the required equipment and facilities to run courses in several management areas: accounting, administration, marketing and tourism.
